چکیده

Employing a field-based monitoring paradigm, the current study examined day-to-day fluctuations in actigraphy-based sleep recordings, cognitive performance (10-min psychomotor vigilance test; PVT), and self-reported recovery status among 14 submariners throughout 67-day military mission. Mission averages reflected suboptimal that was of short overall duration (5:46 ± 1:29 h per 24-h day) relatively low efficiency (82.5 9.9%); levels (PVT mRT = 283 35 ms; PVT response errors 5.3 4.8); moderate recovery. Whilst remained stable across mission days, small but consistent increases onset latency accumulated to reflect meaningful deterioration entire (i.e., 47% 16% average, respectively). Future work is required corroborate findings, firmly establish underlying causes, make evidence-based suggestions for interventions improve uphold submariners’ health performance.

Self reported sleep quality and cognitive performance in ecstasy users.

OBJECTIVES Research suggests that ecstasy users exhibit psychobiological changes relative to nonusers such as altered sleep patterns and cognitive deficits. In turn, it has been suggested that sleep quality may be a mediator of such cognitive deficits in ecstasy users. The present study sought to investigate this proposed relationship. METHODS Aspects of cognitive functioning in 104 ecstasy u...

Self-reported sleep duration and cognitive performance in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sleep is important for optimal cognitive functioning across the lifespan. Among older adults (≥55 years), self-reported short and long sleep durations have been repeatedly, albeit inconsistently, reported to elevate the risk for poor cognitive function. This meta-analytic review quantitatively summarizes the risk for poorer cognitive function among short and long sleepers in older adults. Eligi...

Modeling the adenosine system as a modulator of cognitive performance and sleep patterns during sleep restriction and recovery

Sleep loss causes profound cognitive impairments and increases the concentrations of adenosine and adenosine A1 receptors in specific regions of the brain. Time courses for performance impairment and recovery differ between acute and chronic sleep loss, but the physiological basis for these time courses is unknown. Adenosine has been implicated in pathways that generate sleepiness and cognitive...
